JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving (IG), the IG Associate is responsible for high-quality proposal and report development for new and recurring grants and contracts; active donor cultivation and stewardship; ongoing prospect research; and other fundraising-related activities. The IG Associate works closely with program and central services colleagues to create compelling and competitive funding submissions and identifies new funding opportunities that promote the agency’s mission.


• Writes and edits proposals, renewal and re-compete submissions, further information responses and best and final offers, and acknowledgements and reports to foundations, corporations, and government agencies and entities.
a. Performs all editorial and administrative activities necessary for the timely submission of all proposals, submissions, acknowledgements, reports, and other communications.
b. Prepare clear, concise, and accurate proposals, reports, correspondence, and other job-related documents.
c. Drafts budgets, when necessary.
e. Tracks all actions and proposal information on Excel spreadsheets and inputs all data in The Rasier’s Edge; maintains records of all proposals, payments, and other documents for all grant-related activities.
• Guides program directors/managers and central services offices to accomplish proposal, reporting, and stewardship responsibilities. Identifies and pursues appropriate opportunities to engage, cultivate, and acknowledge funders.
a. Leads the entire grant process from application to approval to implementation to completion (initial letter of inquiry and/or proposal through final grant report).
b. Attends external functions such as site visits, trainings, etc. as representative of the Institutional Giving team and Catholic Charities.
c. Writes, edits, and coordinates submission of all post proposal submission documents including reports, revisions, compliance documents.
d. Follows-up with funders post proposal submission.
e. Follows-up with program staff to ensure they are on track to complete program deliverables.
• Collaborates with staff to identify program and consumer needs and develop them into fundable projects that enable high quality service provision.
a. Researches guidelines and deadlines, and pro-actively informs the appropriate staff of funding opportunities.
b. Identifies opportunities for collaborative projects that maximize the impact of a potential grant or contract.
c. Researches topics related to social service needs in the DC metropolitan area and relevant program areas of interest.
d. Researches public and private funding sources for agency programs with emphasis on increasing bottom line financial performance by targeting agency priorities and under-funded programs.
• Identifies and pursues appropriate opportunities to advocate for Catholic Charities and the people we serve.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


• Bachelor’s degree in English, business, communication or closely related field.
• A minimum of 2 years of professional work experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment.


• Able to communicate the organization’s mission, vision and goals and objectives to staff, donors and other stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively reviews and edit written materials.
• Effectively manage time to meet desired outcomes.
• Able to prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Working knowledge of The Raiser’s Edge and Adobe Acrobat preferred.
• Able to work collaboratively in a team environment, remaining attentive to ideas, recognizing responsibilities, and actively participating with others to achieve desired goals.
