General Information

  • Part-time, Temporary, Non-benefited Position

The part-time, temporary, non-benefited Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is primarily responsible for providing psychiatric assessment and evaluation, treatment planning, medication management, crisis stabilization, consultation, and referral to community providers and resources. The position is based in the Counseling Center, which is a part of the Wellness Center team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments.
  • Provides prescription for medication and medication management.
  • Provides recommendations for ongoing treatment and provides referral to community resources and providers.
  • Provides consultation to Counseling Center staff.
  • Maintains clinical records.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity in addressing topics related to but not limited to sexuality, substance abuse, violence, and risk taking behaviors.
  • Counsels and educates students regarding understanding their mental health, healthy lifestyle choices, self-care skills, and treatment options.
  • Provides telephone consultation as necessary and appropriate to Hood College students under his/her care.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with licensure and credentialing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority in Maryland.
  • At least 5 years of experience working with young adults with complex mental health issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Availability to take off hours professional calls as needed from Counseling Center staff.

Education and/or Experience

An unencumbered license as a nurse practitioner with prescription authority in the state of Maryland. A master’s degree in nursing field is required with experience working with young adults.
