Description The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) is a subcontractor for a government contract with Vectrus that provides health care services for Troop Medical Clinic (TMC), Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar.

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for knowing and understanding directives outlined in Army Regulation 40-3, Policy memoranda published by MEDCOM, LRMC, and the USASWA MMC and MEDLOG pharmacist. Pharmacy Technician duties will include performing a wide variety of complex technical functions that require the application of an extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and pharmacy practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be responsible to the Supervising Physician and Director of Health Services for delivering appropriate quality treatment to active duty military beneficiaries and command-sponsored dependents, authorized Department of Defense personnel, authorized contract workers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

•The Pharmacy Technician must know the entire drug and supply formulary, the strengths/sizes, dosage forms (injectable, opthalmic, optic, nasal, oral, topical, tablet, capsule, regular, sustained action, oral liquids, concentrates, irrigating solutions, drug administration sets, and medical supplies).
•Must be able to interpret a prescription label as to item, doasage form, quantity to dispense, auxillary label requirements and proper labeling procedures and follow safety precautions when filling prescriptions.
•Must be knowledgeable in managing inventory and ordering medication to include establishing stock levels and conducting annual and semi-annual (or more frequently as needed) inventory of the entire pharmacy to include vaccines.
•Responsible for the complex procedures of filling prescriptions for a high volume outpatient pharmacy.
•Must be able to follow safety precautions when filling prescriptions.
•Must be able to interpret a prescription label as to item, dosage form, quantity to dispense, auxiliary label requirements and proper labeling procedures.
•Must be able to follow safety precautions when filling prescriptions.
•Responsible for properly filling out documentation on medication Dispensing Record.
•Serves as a liaison between telephone callers and the Pharmacy Service in a highlycomplex position assuring that all calls are received, screened, routed and resolved according to the most recent policies and procedures.
•Fills bottles and or packages with prescribed medications.
•Types or prints label for bottles or packages
•Responsible for understanding and adhering to Pharmacy, TMC and Military and/or Q-BOSS quality assurance (QA) programs and requirements. Will contribute as necessary to the development or revision of pharmacy specific aspects of the QA program.
•Responsible for stocking shelves and properly recording inventory as per AR 40-3 or as otherwise directed.
•Orders class VIII supplies for the pharmacy.
•Manages Class VIII supplied and controlled and non-controlled medication.
•Performs clerical duties as needed.
•Performs other duties and assignments as required.

•During downtime may be assigned special projects or other responsibilities.

Education:- Requires high school diploma; Associates degree preferred in related field of study; current and valid U.S. certification, license and/or registration to practice as a pharmacy technician.

Experience:- Requires as a minimum of two to five (2-5) years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail, hospital, medical center or nursing home required. Experience working in a military pharmacy or military medical setting is desired. Must have sound knowledge of HIPAA concepts, practices, and procedures. Must obtain and maintain current BLS certification. Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Must be able to coordinate the activities with a multi-national and culturally diverse work force. Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues as they relate to Pharmacy Services.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical policies and procedures, equipment, terminology, nomenclature, etc. used in processing of pharmaceutical functions. Knowledge of and skills in operating a pharmacy computer system is required as well as, the ability to learn the military systems necessary to operate within the pharmacy of a Troop Medical Clinic. Must be capable of operating a personal computer equipped with Microsoft software. Be able to produce “Word” documents and “Excel” spreadsheets.
