Title Improvement Engineer

Description

Under the general direction of the Plant Manager, the Improvement Engineer has responsibility for identifying and implementing improvements to all areas of the Torrance polystyrene operation.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the Plant Technology and capital project plan.
  • Maintain contact with operations, maintenance and logistics personnel to:
    •  Review specific problems
    •  Maintain standards of safety, process conditions, quality, and equipment condition
    •  Keep personnel informed of any changes
  • Implement Improvements based on Most Effective Technology as defined by the Americas Styrenics Technology Leader.
  • Work with outside engineering firms to prepare packages for Capital Project implementation.
  • Work with contractors to complete installation of capital projects safely, on time and under budget.
  • Function as plant Energy Reduction focal point. Develop and coordinate projects in support of annual energy consumption goals.
  • Participate in audits including, Consolidated EH&S, Tech Center, ESRA and RC-PHA.
  • Assure project work is done according to Americas Styrenics guidelines, and training is complete before Start-up.
  • Participate in leading monthly safety meetings on a variety of topics. 
  • Work with appropriate resources, Americas Styrenics and non-Americas Styrenics, on site and off site to deliver best technology to the plant.
  • Communicate to plant personnel status of projects and improvement ideas.
  • Monitor changes due to project work to assure desired results are occurring.
  • Use data driven analysis to identify impact of improvements.
  • Assure the work is done according to specification good engineering practices.
  • Work with maintenance, engineering and construction resources to safely implement capital and expense improvement projects.
  • Ensure project work improves plant housekeeping and has a positive environmental impact.
  • The incumbent must work closely with Operations Manager, Process Safety Engineer, Plant Manager, Maintenance groups and Technology Leader.
  • Assure problems are technically related and are not repetitive, requiring good judgment, extensive experience, and knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • The incumbent works closely with all plant personnel. The incumbent receives clear direction from the Business Technology Leader and the Plant Manager.
  • Participate in Quarterly Reviews. Participate in Management System Review.
  • Participate in Self-Assessment process.
  • Ensures procedures are valid and up-to-date.


 

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
